For over a decade, Set for Success has been a cherished back-to-school tradition, ensuring that every Boothbay Region elementary student starts the year equipped with the school supplies they need—and more. This event not only provides essential backpacks and teacher-required materials but also serves as a vibrant community gathering to kick off the new school year.

What makes Set for Success unique is that it is open to all Boothbay Region elementary students, regardless of financial need. Every child and their family is encouraged to take part in this special day.

Held at Boothbay Region Elementary School, the event welcomes over 300 students and their families. Upon arrival, they are greeted by principals, teachers, staff, and even notable guests—past events have included visits from Maine’s governor. Each student selects a bag—every other year, they receive a brand-new backpack, and in alternate years, they get a fun swag bag.

What began as a simple school supply distribution has evolved into a full-fledged community fair. School supplies are now delivered directly to students' classrooms, allowing families to explore booths set up by local organizations, after-school clubs, and sports programs in the BRES gym. The day wraps up with a lively community barbecue, where students, families, and teachers come together over burgers, hot dogs, and more.

At one time, families faced an average cost of $1,200 for school supplies and related expenses. Set for Success removes this financial burden while fostering excitement and readiness for the year ahead.
